Test Preparation

1. Create a review list organized by topic (you should already have this done) of terms, names,dates, locations related to our study of Prehistory, Qualities of Civilization, Mesopotamia, Egypt, Ancient Americas.

2. TODAY create a set of TWO additional practice exercises such as
-quizzes (30 items)

-- flashcards with definitions

-- timeline(s)

-- maps

-- sketches to compare artifacts and civilizations -- webs of related information.

We will have a test on Wednesday; multiple choice and short answer.

Test Preparation I

Prepare a list of terms, names, events, qualities of each of the following topics as a first step in preparation for our test next Friday.  Use your class notes chapter notes, and all work we have done in class.  Now would be a good time to organize your notebook!

Olmec Heads Hypothesis

Create explanations for any three of our questions about the Olmec heads.

Art as an Expression of Royal Authority: Due Friday 10/11

Please complete thoughtful descriptions and interpretations of the examples of art provided in class.  Sketches should be simple, but thoughtful and more detailed than stick figures.  This material is from the Metropolitan Museum of Art on-line book.  If you want to see color images click the title: Art of the Ancient Near East.

Due Wednesday

1. Use the list of facts you created from your observations about ancient civilizations based on visual evidence.  Create 5 or more inferences.  Beside each inference write the number of two or more facts.  Refer to our class notes for an example.

2. Compose a 5-8 sentence paragraph answering the question: How can ancient cities be described?  Your paragraph should include the following:

-- a direct answer

--2 or more inferences and the facts that support each inference. 

-- correct spelling and grammar

Period 1A

1. Complete CHESS notes for Egyptian civilization.

Many of you have made excellent notes from chapter three!  The CHESS notes should serve as a review.

2. Read any news report that is good news from a region of the world's first civilizations.

a. Summarize the report in 1 paragraph.

b. Write your own thoughts and reactions in a second paragrah.

c. Note the author, date, and publication

Period 4A

Complete notes for chapter 3: River Valley Civilizations.  Use the notes rubric provided in class.

Turn each heading and subheading into a question and answer the question with evidence from the section.  

Oracle Bones and Ancient Documents

Please answer the questions related to Oracle Bones of the Shang.  Question 9 should be answered in paragraph format with evidence from at least two of the documents we discussed in class.
